On April 25, 2012 I embarked on a three-week channel-surf trip to Costa Rica, a country I had neer visited before. Upon my arrival at the Juan Santamaria International Airport in the nifty city of San Jose, I Immediately became aware of the countrys efforts for sustainability and mass tourism; in fact, Costa Ricas perpetration to a booming tourism industry centered on ecotourism. Private nature reserves established by biologists and conservationists, governed by a strong conservation and brotherly ethic in brief became the models upon which the rest of Costa Ricas ecotourism industry was built (World touristry Organization, 2005). Successful marketing and word of mouth now figure out in over one million international tourists per grade (World Tourism Organization, 2005).
Sustainability
The Costa Rican Government has recognized the economic and social values of environmental stability and sustainability for the future. It ranks among the greenest countries on earth and is working(a) to become the first carbon-neutral country with an official goal of 2021 (Hamilton, 2008). Costa Rica has fully committed to renewable energy. Though several oil reserves have been located off the Atlantic sloping trough of the country, the decision has been made to not develop the deposits due to environmental reasons (Bureau of Public Affairs, 2012). It appears Costa Rica is not in need of this oil, as it gets 99% of all its electrical energy from clean sources, 80% of which is produced by hydroelectric plants that produce zero greenhouse gases (Hamilton, 2008). volcanic heat and wind power account for the other 19%.
