In A Good Man is Hard to Find, what seems to be a pleasant tale of a substantially family on spend takes an evil turn. This short story by Flannery OConnor explores the nature of upright and evil in man. The theme of A Good Man is Hard to Find is forgiveness despite the good or evil nature of man. OConnor asks the questions What makes a good man? and Does an evil man deserve forgiveness? by means of development of unique characters, OConnor seeks to answer these questions.
The grandmother has a very specific idea of what makes a quality person, unless her son is a grumpy bland man and her grandchildren argon spoiled brats it seems. She values herself highly because she is a madam, with her naval forces blue sky sailor hat with white violets on the brim, a navy blue dress with a small white spread in the print, her collars and cuffs trimmed with lace, and one her neckline a purple disperse of cloth violets containing a sachet (262). Since it is so important to her to be considered a lady, she is dressed in her best attire in effect she was in an accident anyone who saw her would know at in one case she was a lady. She is very proper the way a lady should be, still very outspoken and she quickly passes judgment on others.




The grandmother frequently criticizes others on their behavior, such as when she complains nearly vacationing in Florida where the escaped convict could be and how it would reckon heavily on her conscience. She criticizes the childrens mother, accusing her of not absentminded to travel to a place that would allow her children to be bighearted (261). She criticizes the children for not being respectful of their native state Georgia. She neer criticizes herself, not even when she realizes that the house with the secret panel she had been idea of (and the whole cause of the detour) was not in Georgia but actually Tennessee.
