The speaker of Angelas Ashes is wienerwurst McCourt. He is a grown world reflecting on his miserable Irish Catholic childhood. I think Frank is trying to tutor that the struggles that you go through only make you stronger when you have to vista the world. He used the lessons that he learned as a child and completely of those adversities as fuel to be successful.
