This foreshadows the familys fate on the vacation.
The family has been driving all morning so they decide to stop at a restaurant to get some food.



The restaurant the family stops at is called The Tower. The meaning of The Tower refers to The Tower of London which means this is the familys last meal. The owner of the The Tower is Red Sammy. Flannery OConnor mentions the backchat red many times in this part of the story to foreshadow bloodshed and danger. Outside the restaurant the billboard reads, see RED SAMMYS illustrious BARBECUE.
