In the 6th century the first Sinhalese came to Sri Lanka. Buddhism was introduced in the 3rd century and had a huge effect on the country. After two decades of fighting, the government and button Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) made a cease-fire in February 2002. ferocity between the LTTE and government forces began again in 2006, but the government regained control again in 2007. Since the end of the conflict, the government has had to settle thousands of displaced people and has undertaken a number of massive infrastructure projects to trace its economy.
